I have a BEL V940 in my truck that I was able to get brand new for $89 bucks with free two day shipping from Amazon back in January. Its now back to $134. Hard to beat that! It does come with the coiled cord which makes it hard to mount up high since it will pull on it, but getting the hardwire kit from BEL that includes the Mute button makes it really clean looking and unnoticeable at night.
I love mine, it works great in the city of Tyler and on the highway I take heading to the parents house. I would like to say that mounting them up high is a great thing, I have picked up Laser and K bands from so far away its ridiculous. Once picked up a Laser bleep that has never happened on that part of the highway before from a small city cop that was around a bend about half a mile up the road and through trees and buildings. (saved me that time, was going 45 in a 35.)
I recently used it on a trip from Tyler to Pensacola Fl. and it worked wonders in LA at night. Troopers decided it was the night to be on the other side of over passes getting people as they came over them. Saw about 15 or so troopers from the start of LA border to Baton Rouge on I-10 and the Bel told me about every single one, Picked them up about a mile to half a mile away every time.
I have the Escort 9500ci here with laser and radar. With the way terrain works around here laser isn't used too much. The unit has saved my bacon a few times so far.
I can see where a radar detector would be really useful in places that still use radar. I wish they did around here. Laser detection is mostly a myth unless you are already being targeted... in which case, you are busted.
