You know that guy Murphy? The "Murphy's Law" guy? I'm pretty sure he was a previous owner of the Pickle.
The "bigger" sawzall my dad brought home was easily twice as "bigger" than the smaller one. I had to jack up the truck to even get it close to cutting anything on the passenger side cat. Well, the 6" blades were too short. The 9" blades kept hitting the heat shield on the other side of the cat, bending the blade, rendering it useless. Went through about 5 blades, and tried a 6" blade. Well, it didn't make it all the way through, and cut a nice curve about 1" too far up the pipe (which will be covered by the lap joint, so no harm no foul).
I decided to cut the other side of the cat out first. That went fine. Ok, so just unbolt the Y-pipe, pull it down, and finish the first cut. Well, the bolts I put on there in September were rusted beyond all hell already. Note to self: Don't use Home Depot bolts on exhausts. The one bolt head stripped. Couldn't cut it with the hack saw. Cut off wheel? Well, the 3" disc was down to about 2". Ok, we have extra discs. What size bolt is that? 5mm allen? Cool. Hey, what the hell? There's no way that's a 6mm... Nope, English. "Hey Dad. Where's the standard allen set?" "The silver one? That's in the basement" Went and got that set... "Shit, this is metric too! Ah f*ck it, I'll just use this disc"
I was able to cut the bolt with no problems. Until I tried to get out from under the truck. "OW
F*CK THAT'S HOT!" Iced it down a bit, doesn't hurt too bad, but it's oozing a bit. Yum. I was able to get the other bolt off with the impact, thank God. Unplugged the O2s, pulled the y-pipe out, made the last cut, picked up all the tools, then just to amuse myself, started the truck.
It sound el goofy.
Awesomely boring pictures in a few.
