Painting Interior Plastic

A local shop has SEM adhesion promotor. Is $9.99 a good price on it?
The guy recommended sticking with SEM for the paint too, but I'd like to use Dupli-Color.
Shouldn't that be fine?

if you use sem adhesion promotor you sould stay with their paint too. but if you want to try it with dupli-color fine a similer peice of plastic and try it to make sure it will work and not crazy check.( crack out) or other funny shit. i fine if you start with a certain brand stay with that brand. and i think sem is good paint but i have to order it in cause noone has it around here.

I used a different type of promoter ( mar hyde/ Mar cote or Mar ?????) and duplicolor paint and had no problems in over a year.

that good to know. when i painted my parts i didnt use any promotor. just some soap and water to wash them and some degreaser we use at the shop before we paint something. and its been on there for a year now and no problems.

Sorry to bring this one back up, but I have an update for you guys.

I finally picked up my donor parts.
I ended up getting the instrument bezel, all the vent deflectors (including the side window defrosters), inside door handle rings, and the pull out cup holder.
I did not get the window switch panels, the overhead console, or the passenger airbag cover. Guess I might have to paint the ones I have. We'll see how the other parts go first.

Anyways, I won't be working on them for a while since I'm getting close to the end of my semester in school (teachers always get on a big push to get everything in) and my funds are very limited at this time.

I'll keep you guys up to date whenever I make some progress.

You don't need to apologize for bringing it back up. You have something of value to add to the thread, no problem there. When you get started doing the mods take plenty of pics and post away. Glad it's all working out for you.

I'm finally starting to work on the parts!!!

I'm starting with the interior door handle trim rings just because they are small and really easy to sand.

I started with 100 grit, 150, 220 and then 400. They looked pretty good after sanding and were pretty smooth. I then did 3 coats of SEM Adhesion Promoter. Now I'm doing DupliColor Filler Primer. (Frickin' DupliColor has now fully switched over to the 8oz cans. Mine was $6.49 for one can. The old 11oz was $4.49 a can.) I'm going to do 3 light coats of Filler Primer and let it sit until about 10:00pm (so 8 hours) or until tomorrow morning. We'll see if I have the urge to sand them tonight or not. I'll probably sand them with 600 after the primer is dry and then PAINT!!

I'll post up some pics tonight of my progress on the rings. I'm hoping to get them finished tomorrow so they can dry tomorrow night.

I HOPE THEY LOOK GOOD!!!!
