First time on here. Been reading all the Threads on the Chevy Silverado, P0449 Code. I have Printed off the 2 PDF's in the 1st Post but I am unsure of this with respects to my particular vehicle.
I have: 2000 Chevy Silverado Z71 LS 4x4 with 5.3L Engine.
The EVAP Vent Solenoid appears to be located between the Cab and the Bed, Above the Gas Tank.
I would PREFER to simply replace the current part that's on there, as I have OVER 360K on this Truck (not a misprint, LOVE this truck).
I do NOT know how to reach this Solenoid. Is there a way to do this without removing the Bed or dropping the Gas Tank?
Also-If I go the Route of the Re Route Kit: Do I have to still remove the old one? Can I just cut the hose going to it?
Also, the Electrical Connection: Once I get that disconnected, how will it reach to connect to the new one?
Also, there's been many part numbers thrown out there. What is it specific to 2000 Silverardo?
Sorry, just been wanting to fix this for some time now, but really don't know how to access the old Solenoid......

I'm working on fixing the P0449 issue on my truck now. I've replaced the vent solenoid with the cheaper Suburban type, confirmed power at the plug, replaced the purge solenoid just because I bough it by mistake. Still have the light though, wondering what to do next.

Here's the funny thing- my truck appears to have already had the "new" Evap system installed. Also, my plug has an Orange hot lead, I believe I saw it described as pink in other forums. The remote filter was located up near the filler neck and held in place with zip-ties, definitely not looking factory. The tube to the Charcoal Can was held on with a short piece of 5/8 hose and clamps. Weird thing is, I bought this truck new, as a leftover in '06 and have never taken it in for this issue.

That is strange and that does sound like the "New" modified vent and solenoid has been installed. My truck is an '06 also and there were no hose clamps until I installed the new solenoid and vent box. I can't tell you what color the wires are either since the truck is 250 miles away at home right now.

Maybe re-check all the connections, the solenoid should close and draw a vacuum on the gas tank. Then the PCM monitors that vacuum level, if it drops in a specified amount of time it throws the P0449 code.

Also check to see that the O-ring on the gas cap is good. For a test of the cap you can put Saran wrap over the filler neck and then screw the cap over it, supposed to create a seal. Then reset the code and see what happens.

I have read about trying that, never tried it myself though. That's about the help I can be on this one, unless someone else chimes in.

I traded gas caps with a 2500 from work today, code came back after a couple starts just like always. I'm almost glad it did because when I first mentioned to the guys at work that I had a CEL, they all sad "check the gas cap." After all the time I spent explaining to them all the dozens of things that could be the problem and that you can't just guess at the code, it would be a bit embarrassing if hey were right.

Unfortunately I can't help any with the issue above but I will throw in my experience.

A few weeks ago I posted that my 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was starting to throw the P0499 code and I started researching my options to fix it. I decided to go the route of buying the original part (not the redesign) as an easy swap to see if that was my issue. I bought this part on Amazon.com for $16.99 and free shipping (it's since dropped in price a buck or two ) since I've got Amazon Prime. I bought two hose clamps and a foot of 5/8" heater hose for about $3 combined. This afternoon I was able to take off a little early and layed out there and swapped the parts out.

For a grand total of about $20.00 and 35 minutes including the 10 mile drive, my check engine light went out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it stays out (the past few weeks it's been coming on for a week and then going off for a day then back on for a week and off for a day) but for $20, it's hard to avoid trying it. :tmc:

Any one knows how I can establish which part or solenoid I have to replace before buying them? I know is the P0449 code. Secondary it is so many places on the Internet with same part to buy but totally different price. How do I know the part I am buying will work with my 2003 Silverado Z71 truck? Buying them from dealer is total rip off. Just buying and changing won't fix the problem only if I going to be lucky and fix correct one by mistake.
Any advice will be grateful.

I believe this is the one you need.

Though just changing parts may not solve the problem, I've changed a bunch of parts and still have the issue. Researching further, it seems like I'm getting the light when the PCM isn't even supposed to be running the test. Full tank, empty, anywhere in between. Cold start, hot start. If I clear it, it stays gone until I restart, but it comes back almost immediately.

First time I've been to your site. It will come as no surprise that I'm having trouble with P0449 as well. I've read all the other postings and there's alot of great info contained there. Thank you for having such a knowledgable site. My problem is, has anyone been able to get the valve solenoid off without taking off the bed on a 2003 Silverado? The space is really too tight to get the hose off the valve and after 9 years the bracket is "fused" to the solenoid and the space is so small, I can't get enough leverage on it to get it out. Help....suggestions.....anyone?
