So, my free one year subscription ran out, and since they have my credit card on-file, I just let them charge me $18.95/mo now for the service. I decided I didn't really need the service anymore, so I called to cancel. Got a really nice customer service agent, and told her that I would like to cancel. As usual, she went through her spiel to try to get me to keep it. I listened and then just said, "no, thank you." She asked why I was cancelling, and I just simply said I was trying to trim the budget. She came back and offered me 3 months of free service, credited back the 2 months I had already paid for, then set my price at $12.95/mo for one year, after my 3 months expire.

I thought this was really nice and very fair, so I kept the service. I can cancel at anytime too, as there is no contract.

If you're looking to keep your On Star, definitely give them a ring; looks like they're dealing.

XM also deals. I had let my subscription lapse, and they sent me a special for 6 months at just $20.

Guess the key with these services is to let them lapse or try to cancel them and they'll come back with more reasonable deals. This is just FYI for those who want to save a few dollars.

Good info:thumbs: I still won't pay for onstar service in my truck though. All they can do for my 01 is unlock the doors, stolen vehicle tracking, and crash response. If I had a newer truck, I could have a ton more features with Onstar. :dunno:

If you are willing to go for a one year contract....

Call them and tell them you got a postcard in the mail with the renewal code on it ... "ZWINBACK"

It will get you a full year for only 77 bucks.
Thats only 6.41 a month.

Isn't ZWINBACK an XM promotion, not OnStar?

Cool deal. Thanks for the info.

I'll have to see what I can do with the wifes Acadia OnStar. I like having it as a piece of mind in case of her getting into an accident. The year subscription just went out.

Another tip, anyone with DirecTV and has been with them over a year or so can call and try to cancel and they will work with you as well. My father-in-law called and they gave him all the movie channels for a year free and his local channels for six months free. He just told them that he could get a better deal if he went with Dish Network.
