Ok, So I ordered a set of Rancho RS5000's last week for a little over $50 a shock from O'Reilly's. My stockers weren't completely wore out but were beginning to feel a little bouncy so I figured I'd upgrade them. After putting on the Ranchos last Saturday my ride totally went to shit. I called the manager at O'Reilly's (who I know) and expressed my displeasure and he said If I took them off he'd swap me out for something else. So I pulled them off today and put the stockers back on until I can go get either Monroes or Gabriels later this week.

I know several people who swear by Ranchos which is half the reason I went with them, but there was no way I could live with the ride considering my truck already rides like a wheelbarrow with a flat tire. I hate to come off like I'm totally against Rancho shocks but I think there's definitely a ride sacrifice in my case. End rant.

For the cost I have always been impressed with the Monroe shocks. Never ran any Ranchos myself.

I had a set of RS5000's on a truck I had a while back. I had basically the same impression as you do. They rode like TOTAL CRAP! I bought them online, so they wouldn't let me return them. I kept the truck for around 10k miles after I installed them, and the ONLY good thing I could say about them is the truck didn't bottom out as hard when I hit a big "whoop" offroad (although the rebound always sucked). I have never purchased another Rancho product since, so I guess that would be an indication of my thoughts on the RS5000's.

i have monroe on the z71 and like them for the price as well. i put the same rancho shocks on my tacoma and hated them. way to stiff. i just thought it was because of the small truck but i love the RS9000XL with the adjustable settings i have now they ride amazing :dunno:

Glad to hear I'm not alone. A buddy of mine was like "Oh dude, you totally should have got the 9000's" but they were over twice as much so **** that.

I've always run Old Man Emu. They are stiff, very stiff. I think Leo is still missing teeth from offroading with me. :D

I heard the same thing when I got mine. At the time (~10 years ago) the RS9000's were still pretty new technology, but were way more expensive. I had always heard good things about Rancho, so I figured the 5000's would be good. My experience was enough to keep me from ever trying the 9000 or any other Rancho product. :dunno:

Those are very stiff shocks. What did you expect?
