More likely he did a LS rear end swap, not too much hard work involved as long as everything is dialed in properly.

No, I am saying I could see him do a peg leg burnout, then he'd back up like he did, and he'd hook up. It was just a stock 10 bolt rear end. Nothing fancy to it all. On a rare occasions, it didn't work, and he'd spin off the line too, but not usually. Also, he had to do a dry burnout to heat both tires. If he did it on wet pavment, it would be a peg legger. I never understood it myself. Some say he had either air or electric locker, some say he was probably running mud for gear oil. I checked myself for air lines and wires. Never found anything of the sort going to the rear end. He did finally break the rear end, and end up going with a 12 bolt LSD 4.56 rear end.

That, and if both tires have equal power/traction going to them, they'll both spin...

The extra power might've been just enough to kick both tires loose before the individual traction of each tire kicked in...

Though, it won't ALWAYS be both wheels, it's definitely possible.

And with the extra weight up front, there's a little less over the rear wheels.

How, what or why, I have not clue either how this happens, but a guy told me some bullshit once, and I knew it was bullshit too. Untill he proved it to me, I never believed him until I seen it with my own eyes. He told me has a peg legger, but he always launched off the line with about a 1 ft scratch of both tires and was gone. Just normal driving, he'd punch it and spin 1 wheel. Finally one day, he told me his trick and could not explain why it worked, then I thought back and realized, yes, he always did back up to the line, or he'd drive way forward of the line, like 50ft or so, then back up and do a dry burnout, not a big burnout, just enough to warm the tires. Then he'd be way out there again, and back up to the line about 40 or 50 ft. Then he'd give his normal 1ft scratch and be gone. His trick was to back up, then under power it worked like a posi long enough to get him off the line. I seen it many times, I even checked for an air line or wire thinking the guy was BSin. If he did, he had it hidden very very well. Can anyone explain that one?

That is interesting?? I can't explain it either. Unless when he backs up the gears are in enough of a bind to give that split second of lock.

All I really do know is that at 90% of the races I am at now. They would let him do that about 2 times before they would automatically eliminate him. Not many tracks take kindly to breaking the beem unless you are an Outlaw 10.5 car or faster.

You are right. At the track, he wouldn't get by with it. This was the good kind of racing. At like 2am in the morning in the streets of Los Angeles. Just a bit on the illegal side. And yep, right again, he did have the occasional where it didn't work. What he wasn't happy with, is after he got his new rear end and some gear, he couldn't get a race. No one would race him. And what pissed him off even worse, he spend all the funds on a new rear end with 4.56 and LSD, so now everywhere he went, he had to drive 55mph, but the gear change didn't increase his time a bit. Only differance was, he now shifted 2 x instead of once. He says he should have just went to the junkyard and got a $50 rear end drum to drum and been done.

Open diffs tend to spin both wheels if you hang a left turn and punch it. If you hang a right, just the inside (right rear) tire lights up.
