Nick I just went to the OE Amsoil and Nick said it is fine for me to change @ 5,000 I did that b/c I'm the same way as most guys on here I just don't feel right going past 5,000-6,000 miles

I need to upgrade to a purolater or wix filter. Been using the Motorcraft ones b/c that's what all the :ford: guys told me to use

That's what I got. I usually run about 6k miles before oil changes. Got the 5w20 OE from Amsoil and will be using a Pure One filter this time..

Just got my oil 30min ago!

I also read that amsoil is made in the USA, which is great.

I'm about to figure out where mobil 1 is made

Not only is it made in the USA, but you can support our buddy Nick as well... who do you support by ordering Mobil 1?

We know Nick, he's a great guy... hell if a big order of Amsoil will cost me $15 more than an order of Mobil 1, it's a no brainer, especially in todays economy. I like my money to flow to good people :tmc:

Reasons for this thread:

1. Possibly save money
2. Support a sponsor if money can be saved.

Hell my order was 220 for motor oil, filter, trans fluid for tranny and transfer case, and gear oil.

What did you use for the transfer case? Ive always heard no one makes an equivalent oil for it, that you have to use GM?

Also, how did you get all the fluid out of the trans and converter to switch to synthetic?

My transfer case is designed to use just ATF. I have not changed out my fluid but there are write ups i have been checking out all day from Scottyboy and from Nick.

Your Options are

Transfer Case,NVG 236/246......SLF [8]
No AMSOIL Product Recommendation
Transfer Case,NVG 261/263......GLS [9]
Torque-Drive Synthetic Transmission Fluid (ATD1G)
Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATFQT)
Transfer Case,NVG 149......GLS [9]
Torque-Drive Synthetic Transmission Fluid (ATD1G)
Synthetic Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATFQT)

Depends on which T-case you have. Jarrod had the 236/246 and he had to use the GM product

Here is a nice tool for you, Im sure it will show you what my truck takes first go round but you can change it on the left hand side

You will not SAVE money switching to Amsoil, where you will see the savings will be how you stick to the drain intervals that they recommend. I was in the same boat as you last year Nick, I was a Castrol or Mobil 1 guy. I just finally decided to take the plunge and switch everything over. I don't even think about price anymore.

It's kind of like when I was trying to decide which tune to get 87 or 91 octane, you know when you try to justify the extra expense of premium fuel versus regular. Once you cross over you will never look back because you feel like you are giving your vehicle the best care you can.

Ok here it is. Retail prices for the OE (3000 mile oil) 10w30 oil (a case of 12 and 5 single qts) and wix oil filters for the three is 118 plus shipping. 64 bucks a case of 12 kicks mobil1's @$$.

I agree with Jarrod that the longer drain intervals are a huge savings in the long run but to each his own

Quick correction... the new OE is NOT designed for 3k mile changes.

Straight from the site:

. The oil drain interval recommendations for many of today’s vehicles extend well beyond the traditional 3,000-mile interval, some up to 12,000 miles with electronic oil monitoring systems. AMSOIL OE Oils provide excellent protection and performance for the entire length of the original equipment manufacturer’s recommended drain interval.

The OE oil is perfect for guys like me who stay true to our 5k mile intervals.

I have the transfer case that only accepts gm fluid. I did not know there were differences from tcase to t case.

The fact is, there is no proof that you can run amsoil longer than mobil 1. If there was, and the price was the same, it would be a no brainer. Sure you can look at each site and watch their videos and tests as to why one is better, but of course they'll say their own product is better.

So if there is no proof that the change intervals can be further along than mobil 1, and no money can be saved by switching, then my instinct is to stick with mobil 1, mainly because it's what I know and it's easily had. And I've opened up this engine before and compared it to a non synthetic oil engine with comparable miles, and mine was perfectly clean. I'm sure amsoil would do the same but not for me.

So you're right, to each his own.

Thanks guys!

Andy, stadt11, has been having his oil tested by an independent tester. His test reports have proven to him that it is superior oil and not just snake oil or marketing hog wash. But since you've made up your mind we'll leave it be.
