Go Sony or Pioneer on everything. Subs, amps, speakers, Head unit/Cd player, etc. Use 12 gauge speaker wire. Put set 12in subwoofers behind seat in the Q basic narrow truck box.

tight thumpy bass or rumbling booming bass? I like Tight

speakers run off the h/u or powered by a separate amp? sep amp
stereo or surround sound? not sure... whichever sounds better
Its been a while since I bought a car system. I listen to Howard in the AM otherwise Classic Rock or Country... good to know I can keep Sirius I do alot of travelling and its nice not to have to switch stations....

I WOULD NOT get Sony. This is from a HUGE ex-Sony car audio lover,but when they came out with X-plode and started selling at Wal-mart their whole product line suffered. IMHO.
and I'm pretty sure she doesn't want to rewire. I would, but that's me.

X-plodes in comparison to Hifonics,Fosgates,MTX,JL,JBL etc are crap. Just my opinion.
They use to have killer amps,speakers head units EVERYTHING but, when you can go to Wal-mart and put a complete "sound system" together for $200(ish) you got to kinda ask, "What are you getting for it"?
I'm not saying you HAVE to go the other extreme and put $2-$3 thousand on up I'm just saying you're getting barely a step up from "flea market" shit.
It's a shame because I was going to go Sony at one time 'til I started seeing where they were heading.

I had no problem using sony xplode products. I only buy headunits that have the fold down face in order to insert cd and adjust the settings/controls.

I see a couple options based on your budget. 1K is pretty tight, especially if you're wanting everything (new head unit, speakers, amp, sub, etc).
Something you can consider is deleting the rear speakers all together and running a nice set of components up front. Our truck cabs are easily filled with just front speakers, and since you're not going for competition or anything I think front speakers would suit you fine. I am running a set of components up front with deleted rears and it goes louder than I can stand to listen to. Stays clear the entire time, too.
That being said, you could also just leave the rear speakers stock and running off the head unit. You can try it with and without them (by controlling the fade to rear/front with the head unit) after putting in the new head unit. As for the head unit I'd stick with the usuals: Pioneer, Alpine, or Kenwood. You have a double-din, right? It's just my opinion but if you have the space for a DD then a DD looks much better than sticking a single-din in there and having a big open space underneath it.
I'd say get a new head unit, 2 nice components for the front, a 10" sub, and a 4-ch amp to run both the components and sub. I think that would suit you just fine based on your criteria. Oh and there aren't many sub box options out there yet for the '09s (at least not inexpensive options). Try SuperCrewSound and see what they have to offer.

If you are installing it yourself then you might want to check out what Crutchfield has to offer. They have always treated me well and their tech support is great.
