It's what all the extra wasted money is for. It's so you can play makeshift Yahtzee with the header bolts.

Only thing your Gona get from shorties is .5 to 1mpg better under a light foot and a deeper sound. I'd do long tubes and just do some cutting and welding. If you don't want to do that then get the shorties. I had shorties on my dodge cause the didn't make long tubes for it. I'd buy shorties again if long tube weren't available. I got JBA shorties and was happy with them. Cost me 300

You could have bought some pretty sweet mowers if you were just wanting to waste money. Those are a lot of coin for no real gain.

I can't say when GM made a large jump in exhaust manifold technology but if your running and older GM truck, I say about 85 and older your going to get a gain with a shorty header. GM had some older Rams Horn manifolds that worked very well, but they will not work with every car or truck.

I post this to not dispute the idea that shorty headers are waste for later model vehicles....the new GM and other makes flow very well and I would agree that they will be of no benefit for replacing these other than some sound improvement or they might be a cheaper replacement for damaged original parts.

For older vehicles they could be nice upgrade but you also have to watch your smog laws.

Not to make this a ghost thread (as it was posted a while back) BUT, check your local laws BEFORE throwing money in to a big exhaust mod.

IIRC reading other threads on the matter (and please if anyone knows different feel free to correct me).

If you in Virginia still have emissions/vehicle safety checks. in some cases, some states will fail you (even if you keep your cats) for simply moving the location of them.

In that case shorties are all you can have and (as stated) save your money on them. Go buy some Magnaflow high flow cats (about $90 ish each) that way you don't risk getting failed for punching your stock cats out.
