It is like a curse, and only I will be able to break it buy selling one of them, or buying tires elsewhere.
Back in '09 before I flew back up here to close on the house, and load up the family for the move to Oregon, I thought I would finally put new tires on that Tahoe. It hat the original Wilderness ATs that absolutely wore like iron, but were just...old.

So, I drove to Costco, picked out a set of 265/75/16 BFG Longtrail Touring TAs, had them mounted, and drove the 'hoe to the Port and had it loaded on a ship.

Drove it back from Seattle to OR, had a low tire. Off to Costco. "It's a nail near the shoulder sir, you will have to buy a new tire" Okay

A year later, flat tire, off to Costco "It's a screw near the shoulder sir, you will have to buy a new tire" Okay

We move back to Alaska. Flat tire, off to Costco. "It's a rock near the shoulder sir, you will have to buy FOUR tires" Wait...what? They don't make that model any longer, so you will have to replace them all. Okay, discount given...

Yesterday, flat tire. Off to Costco. "It's a screw in the shoulder, sir, you will have to buy FOUR tires" I lose my mind at this point.

That tire size is 3.2 % over stock and our new rules prohibit even working on them. Good God. After an hour of appeals, I got pro-rated for the nearly new tires that were on there, and i now the most expensive set of Bridgestone Alenzas ever on this rig...in 265/70/16

Never again.

Costco tire centers are where Satan lives. They are evil and should be avoided like the plague.

I bought my previous set of tires at Costco, and while the price was great, the service sucked sweaty monkey balls. Never again.

This current set of tires came from my local Firestone dealer (Transforce A/Ts)

Isn't it kinda funny how it always seems to be near the shoulder.... I wonder if anything anywhere in the tire is classified as "near the shoulders" :willy:

Holy WTF!

If it were me I'd have been asking to see where the punctures were. There's just too much coincidence going on there.

I'll take a note on that though. Stay away from Costco tire centres.

I generally go to KalTire or Canadian Tire if need be.

I can never seem to get a tire repaired at any of the chain stores (Discount, Costco, Walmart, Firestone, etc.) either. The nail/screw/rock/misc. puncture is ALWAYS on the shoulder or sidewall. I always ask to see the tires, and I have never caught them lying to me...although I sometimes wonder if they don't keep a can of nails in the shop so they can drive one into the sidewall if the actual puncture is not there!

There is a little old man who fixes tires locally, and I have gotten where I take my flats to him if I want to actually have a tire fixed. He will patch them regardless of where the puncture is, and I have never had one of his patches leak!

Good to know. I was just looking at some there the other day. Not that I need them, but I love new tires.

I feel your pain :( I bought Grumpy a set of Michelins for her Burb at an America's Tire Depot and not a week after she managed to run over a small bolt.Luckily it was small enough and in the tread where it was easily patched.Maybe it's a GM SUV thing :dunno:

Three and a half years ago I bought a set of KM2s at Sears and have many thousands of miles on them and have never had a flat(knocks on wood).....luckily.With many off road excursions they are still in tact, maybe a few chunks of rubber missing though from rocks and such but are holding up well. The tread is getting down there so next year I can see needing another set,but thanks to your heads up I'll avoid Costco

I use Discount Tire and buy the replacement warranty if it can't be fixed.
I have got a bunch of new tires for free that way... :D

The prices are hard to beat, it is just crazy bad luck I suppose.

I miss Discount/Americas Tire. Wish they had one here

Pretty much every time I go to Discount, "it's in the shoulder." But, I usually have the replacement certificates. So, all it costs me is a new certificate for the new tire.

3.2% over stock? Didn't THEY put those tires on the vehicle!? Yet, "they can't touch it!?" :wtf?:
