Another source for good cable to use for this kind of stuff is at any good marine supply. You can buy battery cable by the foot, in a good selection of gauges and colors, for a fairly reasonable price. You can usually find the stuff by the foot on eBay too, in the marine supplies.
Knu also has a flexible version of that cable, which is what I used. It's listed as pure copper and they do mention it is good for marine applications. I didn't realize until you brought it up that their non-flexible cable wasn't 100% copper.
very good thread,i forgot all about the work and i stared at the fram for a while!! any cure for that rust?? sand blast then duble paint BTW here in saudi we use asphalt to paint the body and frame to protect it from humidity...my grand father did it on his 78 2500 sierra..and we sold the truck 5 years back and it looks better than yours
I have had no issues to date with the terminals, and as far as I can tell the wire has held up good, if it had failed I would call the owner(he is in my phone, and another close friend that was in my wedding works/helps there when needed). As for performance, I still get slight drops when I am really getting after it with my system, and that includes adding a 145 amp alternator, the wire it self looks good no frays or splits that I have seen, I have checked under the hood every few months for tightness and melting and have noticed none.
