Making gaskets

I, like many of you, have to make my own gaskets quite often. I usually go with the brute force and ignorance way of doing it and some times it works out some times it dose not. Complicated shapes are a big challenge and so are the bolt holes. The bolt holes seem to be the biggest challenge. The material used and cutting tools available make a difference of course, but I cannot help but think there is a more efficient way of doing it. Do any of you have any tips and tricks? Are there any tools or punches out there that would make the bolt holes easier and cleaner? I have an idea for a way of doing the hole but I want to know if it is already out there.

Im assuming these are paper gaskets? You could use a hollow punch.

I use all kinds of gasket material. Right now I just happen to have some sheets of cork. Not my favorite, but it is what I have.

Thanks, those tools would work a lot better than what I have now.

I have always use a small ballpin hammer? I just set the make a gasket paper on the what ever and gently tap around it and then use the round part of the hammer to make the holes. Its always worked for me?

Has not hurt any thing I've dont it to yet. But as far as aluminum only thing ive got thats aluminum whold be therostate housing. Never hurt one yet? Aslong as i tap the ebge im not hurting the mounting surface.

The aluminum on my ATVs I think is softer.
