OK guys...I got a copy of the Service Bulletin which has also been issued as a Rapid Response Transmittal. The Service Bulletin # is 09-002-15. The RRT # is 15-038.

I was wrong on the cause of the noise. It's the pistons!!! Apparently Dodge got some undersized wrist pins and they went into some engines.

The document does list sales codes and a VIN range.

As for my truck they have completed the diagnostics and will be contacting Dodge for a replacement engine. No timeline for that to happen has been provided.

I now have a loaner which was given to me tonight. Gotta love going from a HEMI to a sewing machine.

To continue the saga...

The store manager, a really nice guy I spoke to at length the other night, called me late this afternoon.

He told me that the diagnostics were finished, they sent the test results to Dodge and got back a reply that Dodge approves replacing the engine. A unit will be pulled from inventory at the final assembly plant and shipped to my local dealer.

No timeline for all this but he did say he would get confirmation of the shipment and have an estimated shipment date for me by early next week.

Sweet...

Then he dropped the other shoe....

He said he appreciated me as a repeat customer and to show that appreciation he asked if there was anything I would like to add to the truck from the accessory catalog or parts bin!

I said what I would really like, and keep looking at online, are a pair of power folding, auto dimming, puddle lighted, auxilary turn signal equipped, heated, manual fold up and out tow mirrors in black.

He said, "If you can get me the specific information on the parts, I'll make that happen." I'm calling my buddy the parts guy tomorrow for sure.

Gotta love having a good dealer.

Holy Crap, that is one hell of a manufacturing defect!

But damn, that is good they are going replace the whole engine for you and that is awesome they are going to get you those mirrors.

I guess there are a few good dealerships and people out there.

Oh, in the grand scheme of things it's a minor issue. My dealer has done a great job throughout taking action and keeping me informed.

I just wish I had my truck back. I'm starting to miss it!:-|

I can understand that. I'd miss (and have) mine when it's been out for service. But once you get it back it'll be better than ever.

Update:

I had a funny feeling that something was up at the dealer Friday so I headed down there after I put in my 1/2 day's worth of work. At my advanced age, that's about all I am good for, whether I am there or not!

Sure enough, something was up. The store manager saw me walk in and came out to greet me, saying "We have a big box in the shop you should come out and see."

Of course I took pics...

I talked with the tech and he's gonna hit it hard Monday. He promised he will take a few pics along the way and he will also get my new tow mirrors installed as well.

So...good progress. Stay tuned!

Be careful adding bigger tires with the air suspension... A couple guys tried it around here... When they hit the highway, the truck lowers down... A few torn fenders and tires.

Unless your air ride is just for levelling the rear when loaded...

Glad to see the crate is in, and congrats on the truck!

The air suspension is just for self leveling under load. The tires I have on the truck are actually pretty much the same size as the 20's that were on it stock. Besides, the rear air bags are tucked way inside vs. out at the corners.

Nope...I checked. :naughty:

Wrong part number! :(
