Hey Nick. i was wondering how your valve covers are holding up after you painted them. You inspired me to clean up the z71's motor some . I wanted to paint mine red to match the truck and was wondering what all type of primer, paint you used? and if you just sandblasted or sanded them?

Oh I just lightly sanded them to make it stick, used no primer. I used the green high temp engine paint, no clear. That stuff is pretty shiny to begin with.

I'm sure they have high temp red.

Post up a pic or two when you get it done.

The rear 5 pinion planetary set came in today, I'll order the front Monday I guess and then Thursday I'll see about all the rest!

Well Wed. I am ordering my 4.56's for the front and rear. Tru-trac posi in rear, pinion and ring gears for front and back, and master install kit for both. Bout $780.00 from Rons machining.

Then I need a two piece driveshaft built, that looks to be about $800.00

Then, I need to buy another $1,200-1,300 in transmission parts, then pay guy to do build it all which hopefully wont be above $500.

New chain and a few other things for the transfer case.

Then still have to buy the converter. My friend is recommending about a 3600-3800 stall-circle D billet and be done with it. upwards of $1000 for that.

And thats not even including the motor. My bud also wants me to stroke and forge my LS1, to 383, and then do tsp heads sent to pete incaudo, then FAST 92 or 102mm intake and throttlebody and whatever else it would need.

Said that by the time I turn the key on that motor alone itll be between $9-10K. But noone around here would have anything like it.

But I would rather buy his spare LS1 longblock he has that only has 60,000 on it and drop a nice cam in it and do some mild heads.....

Anyways this is crazy money. If I can do the gears, driveshaft, tranny, stall and transfer case by the end of this turn-a-round I'll be lucky.

ANyways the next update will be when I actually order the gears and then when I install them. Toodaloo

if you went 383 the 102 setup will not work, the bore would be the same 3.905 the stroke will make up the 383, it would be 3.62 then you would go with a 4" stroke to make up the 383 CI
