So you're saying you kept the insurance money, just had a buddy do the body work to repair it but you didn't get a new hood, so that damage is previous damage from the wreck? That's good then. Needed a hood anyway, so when you do tear it good, you've been paid for it already.
But honestly, before someone does get hurt, or you do tear up your truck or someone elses, you really need to get with one of your buddies that welds and either modify that rack to fit your truck properly or get another truck that fits the rack as it is. That's your 2 options.

Yes, I got another hood off that blue truck that bought for $500. I thought about making some supports for the legs in the back out of treated lumber and grade 8 bolts.
