Installing brakes on a homemade trailer

I know a really good parts store I go to in new england sells all the peices to put Brakes on those trailers. We did it to a chipper that had mobile home axles. The name of the place is Robbins Auto Parts. They are in New England. Is they sell them you must be able to find parts online.

To me it looks like the middle axle has brakes. If you look closely at the first picture which shows the middle and rear axle you can see the middle axle is solid behind the hub, that should be the brake drum. On the rear axle you can see the open space behind the hub which means no brake drum there.


Edit: looking at more pictures it looks like it's the rear axle that has brakes not the middle the rest of that stays the same I was just looking at it wrong.

I looked under the trailer with a flashlight and didnt see any brake drums on any axles. All I could see when looking was leaf springs with axles.

Which do am I better off to have on this trailer electric or hydraulic brakes?
