I hear ya...most of the times the numbers stamped in the axls shaft just tell you what the rear end is. if your lucky and no ones ever removed the tag it is usually on the bolts that hold the cover on. i was lucky and the tag for the rear end in the 64 was still there.

i know they are stamped on the ring butyou got to take the cover off.
they are stamped on the out side of the yoke??
I know im being a wus but didnt want to take cover off to see. It's just parked with no engine waiting for it's turn to be rebuilt and i didnt want to run out and get freash fluids and gaskets-because im so annual that id do that with a trk "just sitting there". Im sure your right anyho. The reason why im kinda looking at the 75 Gmc is i was "wondering what if" i could get some meater tires for the rears on those 8 lug rims. And with that darn near unbreakable rearend with 3.73 with a 400tranny(good stuff inside) and 454 (461) in front of it-it be one of the toughest and quickest trks out there.i know they are stamped on the ring butyou got to take the cover off.

o-crap i think i saw them today and didn't realize you was talking about that-you saying on the yoke were the shaft mounts-it was 357-what do you divide it by-explain please...i know they are stamped on the ring butyou got to take the cover off.
they are stamped on the out side of the yoke??
That is what I have been trying to tell you.
Look straight at the yoke, THE THREADED END of the pionion, on the outside, where the nut goes. There will be numbers there. It will have the Ring gear count, and the pinion count. You divide them, and that is the ratio.
Have built many.
