In Louisiana, they check all your lights, horn, wipers, and are supposed to drive it a short distance to see if they notice anything abnormal with the brakes. If they do feel or hear a grinding sound they can fail you. You have 30 days to get it repaired, then come back and you can get your inspection sticker at no additional cost. If you wait longer than 30 days, you have to pay and get it inspected all over again. Regardless, it is the vehicle owners responsibility for making the repairs on their own vehicle, regardless of whether the inspector failed them or not.
