A state trooper over sees that the inspections are done correctly at the repair shops. My teacher at the school even said that the truck shouldn't even passed inspection back in April.

So a state trooper is with the tech, on every inspection, at 4200 locations? I find that hard to believe. That is a ton of troopers to employ for ths:

"Currently, there are approximately 4,200 [licensed] stations statewide. "

Quoted from their site. I think your teacher is pulling your leg about that, Dave.

No a state tropper is not every location but they do pop up unexcepted a least once a month to watch the inspector to make sure he's doing it right.

So... you are going to tell me that the state inspector pulls off every wheel and spends a couple of hours going over a vehicle?

I call bullshit on that.

A safety inspection is letting the state know if you are maintaining your vehicle so that it is safe to be on the road. It is your responsibility to maintain, the state wants it safe for the roads.

Believe or not JIM, thats what their suppose to do! The mechanic that I use for inspections, knows how well I maintain my cars, and basically does the "scrape off, stick on" deal for me...I hand him $16 and leave.

Recently the law changed, and now he has to send the Vin# to DMV by computer certifying the safety of the Vehicle. There are thieves and liars that attempt to replace things that aren't required in the inspection laws.

For instants, A co-worker of mine failed inspection, because of the haze on her headlights...the Law just requires 2 working headlights, nothing about the clarity. The liar, hit her up for $100 to clear them, and threatened to reject her for the inspection.

She didn't know any better, and the bastard took advantage of her ignorance of the laws. All one has to do when that happens is say "Lets see that requirement in writing, or maybe the State Police could clarify that rule for me".......they'll back off then.

Back in the day, Va inspections were twice a year.

Here in Tennessee, There is no Vehicle inspection requirement!

That's just nuts. No way in hell I'm letting some hayseed with an impact rip off a couple of my wheels for an inspection.

No, they have to least pull one front and rear wheel plus the drum.

I hate to think what Texas would charge for state inspections if the guys actually had to do more than beep the horn, drive the car around the parking lot, look in their pre-positioned mirrors to make sure all the lights work, and do the smog check...... :uhoh:

I still say YOU heard the brakes making noise, it is YOUR truck, and it is YOUR responsibility to check it out and fix it.

Just sayin'....
