you can turn the rotors and get your own pads and calipers and put them on...omg....they must think your an idiot!! dont take that shit!!!

yea, i'm not the most knowledgable, but i've helped my old man out enough around the vehicles to know a thing or two.

the biggest problem is the rust, i think that's whats causing a lot of the grinding noise. so all i gotta do is knock that off and i'm good. but, if i can swing some better rotors...i'll do that.

so they called back with full prices for everything. are you sitting down.....god i hope so.

for the 4 brand new brake rotors, pads and calipers....plus the new hub bearings....they wanted $4k. umm, yea.....i'm not going to say anything else about that.

the steering problem, they are replacing a shaft....$250 parts and labor.

airbag seat position sensor.....$225

i only opted for the steering shaft bologna. not comfortable attempting that.

thanks for all the feed back. i'm going to check out that hub thread most definitely.

as i mentioned, found hubs for $85 each. is this a good price? found them on hubandbearingwarehouse.com comes w/ABS cable. thats all i need right?

a shop i took it to before the dealership said my rotors are plenty good. t he dealership says (and its true cause i can see it myself) that theres lots of rust on the rotor. if i have the rotor resurfaced (turned?) whatever they call it, will this solve the rust problem? or i'm going to just go with....

autotruck toys has some slotted rotors for $225. only the fronts, i never asked them to look at the rears. typical dealership, lets tell him he needs to change everything BS.

calipers......these they say are rusted up as well. what can i do to fix this problem? go aftermarket better performing? need more help with this then anything really.

thanks for the input as always. great group of guys on hear always trying to help out. appreciate it.

call your local parts stores and get prices on a of those parts and I will gurantee you that they will be cheaper...some of those may be dealership only parts (manufacturer's dont send out part numbers and drawings/information on all of the parts to OE replacement aftermarket companies) and get a quote on labor from a local mechanic...as I and others have mentioned...it will be cheaper

Do you have access to the auto shop on base?

When we were there, the Auto Hobby shop on Kaneohe was the best. Turning rotors was only $5 each. Chad, John, Roy, and the others are great. Just don't mention Kris with the little yellow MG. THEY WILL KICK YOU OUT. They hated my car!!!!!:ohnoes:

thanks everyone with the help! great feedback. the dealership guy was saying that GM doesn't sell their calipers preloaded w/pads. if i decide to get new calipers to match up w/the new rotors, is there anything else i need besides pads? shit, all this being said....i should have just picked the truck up this evening and done most the work myself over the weekend. as it stands, they couldn't get to my truck again today....not open this weekend, so wont have it done until monday. whatever. i still got the motorcycle, but damn if it isn't the rainy season in hawaii. keep the info coming if you got any.

I SERIOUSLY doubt you even need calipers. I just about guarantee you don't need BOTH calipers. More than likely it needs 1 or both hubs and new pads / rotors. The tech is covering his butt telling you that you need everything replaced. I've NEVER seen all of those items go at once.

You seriously need to let someone else look at it before doing anything.

i'm there with you the whole way!! all i told the place to look at was the right front. thats it. this is the 2nd place i've taken it to, the first place simply said i should take it to the dealer. fine, i did. i'm not getting any work done by them except the steering shaft. though after reading the j-rods link, seems like i should have just done that myself too. oh well.

just going to have to wait until mid next week to get this all going.

hmm, all i asked the shop to look at was the front right. this is the only place where i was hearing this horrible grinding. the brakes on the rotors due to the rust....seems to be the culprit. so.....that being said. should i only turn the front rotors and blast the caliper? i'm asking because i'm not sure where the hub bearing is coming from? what can make this go bad? wear and tear? i got 120K, should i go ahead and replace it just due to the mileage? or is it more likely part of the shop trying to get the extra buck. i'm looking for most cost effective and shortest amount of time.
