well i thought i would share a prodject i recently had to do

so it all started with a little knock in the motor but everyone i know( most of my friends are mechanics) thought it was in the supercharger.. and said wen u get a chance to take it off

so about three weeks later me and a couple friends were about to go snow boarding and i drive up my street at about 3000 rpms my truck bogs down to roughly 1500 and knocking like crazy i was needless to sat pissed the hell off

to get her home i had to be full throttle in reverse not making any power to get up the driveway...

first thing i did was check oil and what the plugs looked like

saw this

the next day went and baught a compression tester... didnt fit

i pulled the supercharger to inspect it and see if maybe i lost a bearing.... nothing wrong

so now with no idea what was wrong i drain the oil just to give my self kicks

there were METAL SHARDS in the oil

nothing left to do but pull the motor

the process begins

after getting the motor out and pulling heads and oil pan this is what i saw

just looks like some carbon build up so we decided to pull pistons

six of the pistons we pulled were fine but the last two when we un bolted them from the crank they just fell out.. thats bad

this is what i saw

WOW!

That sucks. Wonder if it was a boost related failure?

Damn! That's some serious carnage. Any idea as to what caused the failure?

hah the problem was i BELIEVE i used to haul about 7000 lbs out to the desert every couple weeks up hill that means i would be floored for about an hour at a time so over time it slowly started to eat the piston... and once it ate it enough the air and fuel began to creep down the wall and detonate in the sidewall of the piston

No fun man. Did you replace the stock manifolds with headers while you had the motor out? It would have been a great time do it.

how much boost is the supercharger putting out? you may have your engine's compression set too high, and the supercharger's added power overloaded it. I had something similar happen to a 383 Chevelle because the compression ratio was too high to accomodate the supercharger.

IMO it could have been the crakcase ventilation system lifting to much oil into the intake, seing as everything is so black and coked up. I`d consider an aftermarket system to "catch" the crankcase pressure "fumes", and avoid it going back into the motor. that could have started the problem....:dunno:

any deposits in the combustion chamber will fal in behind the rings, build up and them break rings and/or pistons just like in your case.

the supercharger will cause higher crankcase pressure for sure, simple science.

Cool pics, I like to see carnage, as long as it's not my engine. Glad you got it all fixed up.
