They really should use the GM torsion bar removal tool.

All that does is unloads/loads the keys, it won't help get the bar out of the socket.

It also aids in reinstallation, but I see what you mean.

what i do if the key is stuck in the torsion bar is stick a 1/4" plate between the front of the crossmember and the key and then use my mac air hammer or 2 lb sledge with a big bolt in a vice grips to pound on it,

if it is stuck in the lower control arm and free from the key, then i have a old torsion bar i cut in half, and stick a 1/4" plate between the backside of the crossmember and the key, and pound on it with a big sledge hammer from the front of the truck.

and today i had to do a leveling kit on a 2008 GMC Sierra 2500, and typically the passenger side is always the hardest side to get out since the exhaust is there and rusts the key, torsion bar quicker, but i had to use a torch and heat the the bar/key in the access hole in the back and get it cherry red, your not trying to cut it... and it fell right out afterward

also another tip when you get them is out coat both ends of the torsion bar hexs with anti-seize as well as the adjuster bolts, because if you ever have to mess with them again they will fall right out and it wont be a pain in the ass next time around
