GM torsion bars

Got a buddy trying to remove his torsion bars in an 03 Sierra. Anybody know an easy way to do so? He was told to heat up around the bar on the A arm, to which I nearly screamed NO!!! They've been beating and wrenching on it but have no Idea how to do it and Im at home( finally some time for R&R) and don't wanna go help in person. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does he have them COMPLETELY unloaded, and they are just stuck in the LCA?

The must be completely free of load if he ever expects to get them out. Loosen them completely at the adjusters and get the front the front wheels off the ground. That'll get him close!

Already free of load....I made sure of that.

I recommend using the unloading tool. Putting the keys back in without them is about impossible.

Lots of penetrating oil.

I would imagine up there, they are pretty rusted, so lots of penetrating oil. Then, stick a piece of pipe or solid bar stock into the torsion bar "socket" from the front, and try to beat it out with a sledge.

They really should use the GM torsion bar removal tool.
