Yeah, lets not talk about AFM and oil issues in GM engines... :frustration: :)

Maybe we should all switch to diesel.

Idk what you're talking about. :uhoh:

Actually I don't know anyone personally that has had any AFM or oil consumption issues. Maybe a dozen or two folks with Gen IV 5.3s, mostly iron blocks though. :dunno:

You're just mad about the rear end/whining slam...

I have yet to find out if Ford has a motor that doesn't throw a spark plug or two through the fender/hood.

It would be awesome if they found room in their powerful block for more than 3 rings for those spark plugs to thread into. :jester:

To be fair, I wasn't comparing... Just talking out my butthole....

Welcome to 2014 Brian. Ford fixed the spark plug issue about 10 years ago. And they do not even make those engines anymore.

Now, shall we talk about GM and their inability to make an engine that doesn't eat or burn oil right off the assembly line?

Shall we talk about AFM? (the current AFM system on the new engines is STILL having issues).

Sorry Brian, but GM fans shouldn't be throwing stones, because they are not even in a glass house, they are in a wet tissue house.

Actually, there are no problems with Oil Consumption or AFM in volume. Maybe a small handful of trucks...

Let's not even get started... Those issues are yet again, miniscule compared to ford owner complaints to the NHTSA about safety when the engine loses power/shudders/cuts off at highway speeds that happens with trucks before, during and after they are built. Some of the biggest complaints from ford owners are about the drivetrain, heating & cooling and safety...

Every truck had their underlying issues. Just don't buy a lemon...

But...

According to Jeff, all trucks "must" be crap, some just look different than others. :jester.

You might want to fact check your facts, a little...

Anyone who seriously thinks AFM oil consumption issues are only limited to a small handful is seriously delusional.

GM even has a TSB out for it.

If you have one that does not consume oil, you are one of the very few lucky ones.

It is not due to a defective part, it's due to a poor design. This is a fact.

It's not just the trucks either, the V6 AFM engines have the same issue.

At the end of the day shit happens and Ford, GM, and Fiat trucks are pretty damn good and I'd buy any of them without hesitation if the looks and features grab my attention...and Ford puts a bullet in or drastically redesigns MFT.

I'm still a fan of GM trucks, but it's fwonking crazy for someone to say they don't burn oil. I bet I do through almost 2 quarts between my longer change intervals.

I still like GM trucks. But with any model or individual truck there will always be things that aren't perfect.

Well, back to reality...

Yes, there just so happens to be a TSB... This is for technicians when a customer comes in with a oil consumption problems and for consumers to be aware of the possible issue.

But according to government complaints, dealer records and sites like carcomplaints.com, the number of trucks that have been affected by oil consumption is less that 1% of trucks built since AFM has been used in GM trucks. That's still a crap ton of trucks with the issue but legitimately so, I've often wondered if half of those trucks were neglected and brought into the dealership blaming it on the AFM.

It is a issue for sure but in comparison to other trucks out there, its definitely not the biggest problem... By far!
