If you're gonna haul that much, I'd look into a Top Kick or Kodiak.

Whats that? Never heard of it.

:wtf:

This is a Kodiak:

I am agreeing the buddies here Dave. I think your 3/4 ton idea is a WANT, not a NEED. But think about this, if you step on down a 1/2 ton sounds to suit your needs just fine, you are going to open yourself up to getting a lot nicer truck for the budget you have, and its also gonna get better mpg than a 3/4 ton. You are also going to open a much wider range of selection cuz 1/2 tons are for sell everyone, and most 3/4 -1 tons and beat to hell and not as common as 1/2 tons. Even 4-8 inches of water isn't shit, I can cross that in Yota Rolla !!! So get you a better 1/2 ton with a much better selection to choose from and I think it will serve your purpose well for all your listed projects. And then remember if a times come your really do need a 3/4 for a short project, you still haver your 90 3/4 ton. Thats what you are keeping it for right??? I say get the half ton dude !!! And if you wanna be cool and get your fix for a 3/4 ton. PUt some hub caps over your half ton wheels and have someone paint you 8 lugs on the hub caps. Then you'll have everyone foooled.

What features do I need to stay away from that are nothing but problems?

Dave in the millions of threads you have read what are the most common quetions asked about these trucks? It isnt like your going to the dealer and custom ordering a NEW 40,000 dollar truck. The options are all pretty much gonna be the same except for a WT so find something YOU like buy it and be happy with it.

Ok, Guys. I'm going with a 1/2 ton chevy of ford full size 8 foot bed.

Awesome, you'll be happy you did. And realistically Dave, since you are getting an older vehcile, I'd stick with GM truck for sure. Cuz it may need worked on or when comes time to rebuild motor, the Chev is gonna be much cheaper. And have ever rebuilt one of Fords Modular motors??? The 4.6 which I like better, or the 5.4??? They are bit more complicated and certainly more expensive to build, even in the long block phase of the build.

With a $5k budget, you could probably get into an early GMT800 (99-02) RCLB in somewhat decent shape.
