My dad has one and hates it. It gets 10 MPG or less loaded, pulling a gooseneck, or empty. Hes also had the infamous ford spark plug ejection.

On my buddy's, he went through the "repair" for this, I beleive it involved inserts, then the damn thing kept overheating and had to buy new heads anyway.

Expensive damn repair!

Yeah, they're call a time-sert. I actually had an '01 Lincoln for a while that had a plug came out and I had to have it done. I want to say its was about $200 a hole :)rollin:) so I fixed the one that blew out and sold the car.

I know the local Ford dealer here was replacing cylinder heads often on them. (have a connection that runs their parts dept) I don't know enough about them to know any more.

The ford place has half the lot with powerstroke 6.0's and the other half with V10's waiting to be fixed when I was there the other day..

Yes they have a bad rap with the spark plug issues however I looked into a V10 F250 before I got my current truck and did quite a bit of reading up on them.

The general consensus I got from the super duty guys is they actually pull about the same or sometimes better than the powerstrokes. If you look into it the power numbers aren't terribly different and the V10 doesn't wait for a turbo to spool before the torque hits. Also that's about the same mileage as the one I looked at, and it was unanimous that if it's going to have the spark plug issue it would have happened by now.

Also it sounds like most of these engines (other than the ones with spark plug issues which I believe was remedied in 03ish) will last 300+ if taken care of.

The didn't have the best reputation in the Super Duty trucks. Head problems and absolutely horrible fuel economy. Many are long gone to the graveyard.

I have to agree with Jim, since a friend of mine had one. He said it was the worst truck he has ever had.

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
If that truck had the 7.3 diesel in it, I would say yes in a heart beat.

if it has the 7.3 in it ... it would be in my driveway.

If it had the 7.3, it wouldn't be for sale, or it'd be a lot more $$$

I worked for the University summer 2005. The truck we used was a 2003 F250 Excab with the V10. It scooted along okay unloaded, but was a dog when you put more than 25 pounds in the box. We didn't care about gas so much (since we weren't buying) but we'd fill that damn thing at LEAST once a day.

I have a 2010 F350 ECLB 4x4 with the v10 and a 6 speed manual for my work truck. I did a lot of research on these before deciding to order it that way, and I must say I am really happy with it. From what I could tell, models prior to 05 did have some issues with the plugs/heads, and were also 2valve versus the newer 3 valve. As far as fuel consumption, I am getting around 11 unloaded and 9 with a trailer with mine, but it has an enclosed utility box on it carrying lots of tools/weight. Just for comparison, some of the guys I work with have trucks basically identical to mine with the 6.4 Powerjoke (autos), and they are getting the same or worse mileage. Power-wise, it does pretty good, it is not a race truck by any means, but it gets around well. You do have to rev it some to get maximum performance. Compared to the Chevy 8.1/Allison I had before, the v10 is a much smoother engine that seems to put more power to the ground. The 8.1 also got 9 mpg empty and around 6 with a trailer.

Yes, I am very familiar with the Time Sert, King Sert, and the rest of the thread inserts. Good stuff! I just didn't pay too much attention to his blathering about how the Ford dealer had thier way with him :jester:

Holy cow that is horrible mileage for an 8.1! You should have sought help for that. Mine, and all my work 8.1s did so much better. I regularly got 10/11 fully loaded at 12,000 pounds before the tune, and as well as 12 after ( flat highway).

14 highway for all my 8.1s/ 11 city with a heavy foot when unloaded

That is cool that your 2010 is doing well for you, I have not heard much about the newer ones

They're boat anchors.

And that generation is known for puking spark plugs right out of the head. THAT is why heads get replaced.

Good looking truck though,.....but it needs the 06 grille:
