Why buy new when you can restore?
Sorry, but washing your gas tank straps isn't exactly a priority of mine. My truck is 13 years old with 123k and came from MN and my gas tank is still there. They had to have used different material for the straps or a different mount/design.
For all we know, GM or Dodge could have the same problem. Will they make a recall, probably not. That was Ford's decision.
Tyler, I also check the underside of vehicles before buying them. After having my first truck turn out to have a 1ft hole in the driver's floor, I learned my lesson. I too wash the bottom of my truck as best as I can.

It usually takes a day or so to get all the info.
