Sorry, but washing your gas tank straps isn't exactly a priority of mine. My truck is 13 years old with 123k and came from MN and my gas tank is still there. They had to have used different material for the straps or a different mount/design.

For all we know, GM or Dodge could have the same problem. Will they make a recall, probably not. That was Ford's decision.

Tyler, I also check the underside of vehicles before buying them. After having my first truck turn out to have a 1ft hole in the driver's floor, I learned my lesson. I too wash the bottom of my truck as best as I can.

I would have put this in the recall section....but I would have interrupted FX4's nice and organized forum...:jester:
I'll get this up in the Recalls section. I saw it on the news tonight but I won't have all the info until tomorrow. :dunno: It usually takes a day or so to get all the info. :D

Washing your ride in general is maintenance. You can go through a car was for 5 bucks that washes the undercarriage. When I was looking for a new truck I always looked at the undercarriage. It was Obvious who washed the underside and who didn't. Rust knows nno brand or material. There are no late 80's toyotas with beds in maine. They all have flat beds because the rust along a pinch weld and the bed sides fall off. Toyota did not have to recall them. Toyota did have to recall almost all there trucks from the mid 90's though. Again. I know people who never washed their trucks and the frames rotted and broke. Then there were people who did wash their trucks and they did not get recalled.

Yes, washing your vehicle in the GENERAL sense is part of maintenance. But washing something so specific as fuel tank straps is not.

The F-150 is a cash cow...there is no reason that this happened considering Ford has MAJOR corrosion issues with the 1991-1993 Escorts. In 1993, they switched something that prevented a lot of the rusting issues.

This issue is not a vehicle maintenance issue. It's simply a faulty part....the manufacturer's bean counters probably saved $0.15 a strap by not making them properly.

I believe it was discovered by the germans, or it flavors the roads....
