I think it was time to do something with the Ranger, the platform was older than quite a few of the people who drive them. The funny thing is, it is still a pretty capable little pickup, and drives fairly well considering it has not even been really updated since 1998. But, I don't think killing off their "midsize" truck line in the US is the best plan of action. If they have the new platform developed for the global market, it wouldn't take much to bring it here.

I personally really like the size of my Frontier, but if there was an American equivalent, I would prefer that. The Ranger and Colorado were both too small for me to even consider, especially since the Ranger didn't offer a crew cab. I am not a fan of the Dakota, and it gets worse fuel mileage than a fullsize Silverado, so it wasn't really an option either. Between the Tacoma and Frontier, it came down to price, and Toyota is really proud of their stuff. Considering these midsize trucks are pushing $30k for a loaded crew cab 4x4, I would think there are some profits to me made in this segment.

If it's 90% the size and especially if it's 90% the price of the F-150, I don't see the point in selling it here.. Most people in the US will spend the $1000 or however much more and get the bigger, more capable vehicle, that may not have much of a MPG penalty vs. the smaller vehicle, with the smaller motor.. :dunno:

agreed....i have had at least 2 rangers and got excellent use out og both of them..i agree that the size was a downfall but it made up for that in mpg and dependability, i beat the hell outta both of mine and they were still running and driving perfectly when i sold them....ford needs to re think the market for the ranger...there are just too many versitile uses for the ranger to completely off it in america

If they get thousands of people asking what happened to the Ranger, I'm sure they'll "make a business case" for bringing the new Ranger to the US market.. :)

I will admit, making a "global" vehicle and then not offering it for sale in the HOME market doesn't make a lot of sense.. :dunno:

I really think an original sized mini truck would sell well here. Hell we have Smart cars that are no bigger than a refrigerator box and they are selling well here.

Somebody needs to produce an old school mini truck, prices for about 20 grand nicely equipped... It could even be unibody. I think it would sell.

Yeah, why'd they stray from the s10? All good little trucks that aren't too expensive to drive around die. :dunno:

I love my little 92 toyota pickup, it's tougher than nails with 300,000 miles and I drive it harder than rocks. But, the mexicans around here love those little mazdas.
