Nice. I haven't built an engine since the mid 80s.

This one needs pretty much all new parts from sitting since the 80's . Lucky for me he raced so long so I have many performance parts I need already. He's been teaching me how to determine how to choose parts and specs I need. Very smart seeing as I'm just looking at wanting the Cam.

Have you decided on a cylinder head yet? Steel or Aluminum? I love the Edelbrock aluminum Performer RPM heads I have on my 91 chevy.

Yea We are going to run Aluminum. We've been thinking about 23º heads but thats a little overkill. Seeing as we are trying to keep it mild power band.

95% of your SBC heads are going to be 23 degree heads. That is pretty much the standard for SBC. There is not need to go with 18 degree or SB2 stuff unless you are wanting to make BIG power (700+).

What is your budget on heads? If the money is there I would go with AFR Eliminator 180 or 190 heads. Other wise for a good cheap head get a good set of Vortec heads.

I'm guessing you are not planning on replacing the crank shaft? If you are, there is no reason not to build a 383. You're already boring it 0.030.
