Have you decided on a cylinder head yet? Steel or Aluminum? I love the Edelbrock aluminum Performer RPM heads I have on my 91 chevy.

Yea We are going to run Aluminum. We've been thinking about 23º heads but thats a little overkill. Seeing as we are trying to keep it mild power band.
Is this a four bolt main block?

Yes Sir.

95% of your SBC heads are going to be 23 degree heads. That is pretty much the standard for SBC. There is not need to go with 18 degree or SB2 stuff unless you are wanting to make BIG power (700+).

What is your budget on heads? If the money is there I would go with AFR Eliminator 180 or 190 heads. Other wise for a good cheap head get a good set of Vortec heads.
I'm guessing you are not planning on replacing the crank shaft? If you are, there is no reason not to build a 383. You're already boring it 0.030.

Thanks for the info, and yes Replacing everything. Crank Shaft too. along with Tranny. Gonna make sure everything is built right and strong. I am just looking to reach at least mid 400's in hp and ft/lbs.

As for budget, We have many racing products and supplies we need already, such as Intake, carb, ect. main thing I'll be purchasing is heads, pistons, crank shaft, cam if I don't use one we already have so I can splurge on heads

Not sure yet. It's either going in the 97 Green GMC or gonna find something to put it in. Would LOVE a 68-72 c10 to put it in. :D. My GF dad actually found a Studebaker In great condition with no motor or tranny so we might look into that and try for something like this.

You mean something like this?My son's truck,he got it for $400 barely running,it ran just long enough to get it on the trailer. We did some work on it and it's been running for a couple of years now...there's a thread on it here somewhere if you're interested.
