Educate me

I know I haven't had my truck for long but I am currently in a financial situation that doesn't leave my family with a lot of extra money. I am starting to think about selling/trading my truck in for a S-10 or Ranger. Obviously it won't be something newer, but I would still have a "truck" and get better mpg's. I would like to keep it 4x4 also. What I want to know is:

1) Is it a good idea to consider this?
2) What years/models should I look at?

I am paying $250.00 a month for my truck right now and about $70.00 a week in gas. I figured I could probably save some money by downsizing to a smaller truck. I have my bike to ride when the weather is nice so that does help, but just looking for options to help save some more money. And no, I don't want a car.

From my experience the smaller trucks don't you that much improvement in gas mileage to make it worthwhile.

No it is worth more than what I owe.

I will add, I am getting about 13 mpg's right now. This is all just a thinking and weighing options stage right now.

Mine gets 12 mpg. I'm looking for a small truck too. Im wanting to keep the big one as a toy though.

I drive mainly highway as you know to work everyday and I'm still getting right around 13mpg's.
