Balls. Bundle up and ride the bike? Jason picked up a Bully Dog tuner and runs 19mpg on the economy setting. The $400 investment there may not be worth the savings, though.

I had an older Ranger with a 2.3 and 5 speed and only got 18 on the highway.
Rangers are pricey imo. I was lookin at tacomas and s-10s

Yeah, I doubt he is actually getting that much more out of that tuner. It may register that on the bullydog screen, but that would be a huge improvement for just a canned tune.

In my experience/opinion. A smaller truck doesn't get that much better MPGs and really not worth it IMO

GM's 4.3 and late model Ford 3.0 and 4.0s are pretty bullet proof but are generally gutless by modern standards and aren't known for their fuel economy. Payment probably won't go down much and you might save $10-15 a week in gas. Every little bit helps, but it probably makes sense to do cut backs somewhere else or just get a car that gets good gas mileage until your situation improves.

I figured you'd take his experience with a grain of salt. In fact, I expected you to. I can hit over 20 MPG but I have to take everything slow and use cruise so the eco whatever setting shuts off 4 cylinders.

Here's the thing. If a car is not an option, just stick with what you have and drive a little easier and ride the bike when you can.
You just aren't going to find a truck that gets good mileage.
Do you have your factory wheels/tires? If they weigh less than those you have now, your best bet would be to put them back on and like I said, drive a little easier.
