Between a new PS...Or a ecoboost... Probably the ecoboost.... I would pick a duramax or 7.3PS over both tho

The new diesels are not that good and you are not going to get much better mileage than the big gasser. I would not buy a post 06 Diesel IMO. I work on them and they are not nearly as reliable and the cost to run them is way way more than anything you might save on gas.

Diesels are good, but this DPF and SCR stuff suck a lot of their power and, specially, fuel efficiency. It's just a way to make the gassers appear to be not so bad...

Thats what I am talking about. The emissions is part of the package now. Sure on light trucks you can dissable some of it but those days are not going to be here forever. If you look at the heavy truck market there is no alternative. You cannot remove the DPF on an over the road truck. It will not run. The computer will shut it down. Not to mention you would not be able to afford the fines when you get tagged by the DOT. They will catch up with light diesels and make it so the emissions cannot be removed.

The biggest problem are the bureaucrats, Tyler. Their emission figures are usually manipulated to portray diesels as the "villains" but if they were really so bad they would have all been replaced by CNG-powered stuff...

Why would i step back in time and get the 7.3? Sure they were reliable, sort of. I owned several, and like anything else they have quirks. And if you want to build power out of it, get your checkbook out because its going to get fucking expensive.

Sorry, IFS Is for half tons

True...damn those 2011 GM 1/2 tons that will out tow, out pull, out stop, and drink less than those SFA trucks.....

Weird, I pulled this data off both vehicle makers sites. This is current for 2011.
with a 5.3 and a regular cab 2wd(highest rated for bumper pull) is 10,000lbs
5th wheel max weight with a 5.3 is 9600 in the extended cab 4wd version

ad the 6.2 and you get 10,700 bumper pull and 10,600 fifth wheel. Mind you these are half tons, because that is what you decided to use as an arguement...

Fords SFA trucks are rated at a max of 13800 with a diesel and bumper pull and 16400 with a fifth wheel. If you want to compare gas then its 12500 and 15200. Weird, but both of those numbers seem bigger than the half ton Chevy's. But to be fair, I'll compare half tons for you.

The F-150 with the 3.5L Turbo will tow 11,300 lbs bumper pull and 11,300 fifth wheel. So, Im curious how it is that chevy's will out tow, or out pull or out stop or whatever it is you think they do? You realize the 3.5L eco-boost is 365HP and gets 21MPG? My tahoe, which always get better MPG's than the trucks barely gets 20 on the freeway.

I'll update this to add HD's then its a max of 13000 bumper pull and 17400 fifth wheel. So the SRW HD can tow more via fifth wheel, but the SD pulls more via the bumper.

I understand that. I work at a CAT dealer as a mechanic. I deal with this stuff every day. I love Diesel engines its a far better technology. Yes politicians don't understand crap about them but that does not change the fact that the laws are they way they are and we now have to deal with the Modern Diesel engine. I see trucks coming into the shop that used to go 1/2 million miles before they even needed a turbo or head gasket now they are in the shop constantly. I put 2 turbo's on a C9 before 30K miles. The Failure was caused by the EGR clogging up the variable vaines on the turbo. The same style turbo found on modern light diesels. Since the turbo's have so much more technology in them they cost way more. That single turbo was $4200.
