Do you care about your Truck Warranty?

Yes I do care, especially with the motor making odd noises.

You seem to have a fetish for engine noises Jas. The 4.8 - 5.3 - 6.0 - 6.2 engines have proven to be some of the most reliable engines ever produced for a motor vehicle.

I can understand people not wanting to blatantly void the warranty on a brand new vehicle but after a few months all bets are off!

They are great engines, Jim. But seriously, driving when the engine's cold, I can hear slight ticking noises. It's a known issue, but if something does go wrong, I don't want to shell out big bucks to get it fixed.

What engine is in the Edge?

3.5 V6.

On a side note...I saw a completely undercover Edge running Code 3 the other day. Talk about a sleeper.

Ok.........................................

I think it's you. My friends 180K mile Suburban (2002, 5.3) purrs like a kitten. My truck, same thing. Grandma's 45K, 2005 Rainier (5.3), not a peep.

It's not just him. Lot's of people experience CSK, lifter noise, etc. on these motors. Aside from some lifter failure though on the newer AFM trucks, none of it seems to actually be detrimental.

To get back "ON TOPIC"...

When I buy a Brand New vehicle...I give it a few months and a few thousand miles... then I do whatever the heck I want to.

I figure if it is gonna have a catastrophic failure, from something not being made right... it is going to do it fairly soon.

After that and after I start modding it...if something breaks... I will cry a little...dig into my pocket...and fix it. :D

PS:..I had the Caddy's engine and transmission tuned a "LONG TIME" before it was out from under warranty.
It has a 4 year / 50,000 Bumper to Bumper warranty.

For a brand new vehicle, I like to give it a couple thousand break-in miles. Hopefully if something is going to break, it'll happen during this time. When I'm thinking about mods, I always have to keep in mind that it has a factory warranty and what it might cost out of pocket you should those components fail. It is nice having bumper to bumper coverage. And let's face it. Replacing certain components will very likely void at least a portion of your warranty. For example... installing a lift or lowering kit. Don't expect them to cover suspension components under warranty if they wear prematurely .

This is also why I buy new vehicles with pretty much everything I want from the factory. This way I don't need to worry about aftermarket stuff getting in the way or spend even more money later. By the time I get bored with it and want to mod something that may be warranty related, chances are, the warranty is probably just about up and the vehicle is paid for anyways.

Only exception is really the tune. There wasn't a factory option for "No GM Nannies." They shouldn't have given the truck 403hp if they didn't want me to use it. :D

As for Maintenance... yes, I let the dealer do all it while under warranty. I trust them way more than I would anybody else (including myself). If they break something, they can fix it. Or if they find something else wrong, it's in good hands. Although I do bring them the Mobil 1 and filter for oil changes. They still get to do the work.

personally ive never owned a truck with a warranty... but if i had one... i wouldnt care. Id lift it, mod it,, etc. Working at a dealer.. most dont even care.. they want your business... now if you blow the engine up... and its obvious youve been beating the hell out of it.. spraying nitrous.. yeah there it goes.. but alot of dealers will work with you. Plus like jim said.. you break sumtin.. just fix her yourself.. then you know its done correctly. I NEVER let anyone work on my stuff.. period.
