Do I use 5w-30 or 10w-30?

I need to change the oil my new 97 chevy 350 vortec. 5w-30 or 10w-30? I don't know what's it now. I'll be using amsoil oil and oil filter.

GM didn't start recommending 5w30 until the later 4.8/5.3/6.0 engines. I'd stick with the 10w30

My 95 5.0 is recommended to use 5w30, been using year round since I got the truck 7 years ago. 213000 miles and running 40 psi at hot idle, 60 psi at 70 mph.

HMMM. The first truck I had that called for 5W30 was my 2001 Silverado.

I was just following my owners manual. I believe it says the same for the 5.7
