The original Ford guy around here
Big subtle changes planned this spring. Truck will be getting some suspension TLC, and a new pair of Nitto boots. My last inspection in October verified my lower ball joints are beginning to show signs of wear and will need replaced next inspection time. So I have until Oct 2013. The 33x12.5/R20 Toyo Open Country M/Ts have lasted me about 47,000 miles I believe, treads currently at 6/32 so I am hoping I can squeeze another 6,000 miles out of them. Summer 2012 it pulled to the right a little and I had it re-allgned, caster was off. So my front right wore un-even a bit out the outside. Unfortunately that sped up the need for replacement tires.
So here is the plotted parts list.
-Moog UCAs with serviceable ball joints. $180 avg.
-Moog serviceable lower ball joints in my OEM arms. $40.
- Rancho Quiklift 2.5" leveling struts assembled in replacement coils. $421
- Rancho RS9000XL rear shocks. $221.
-Nitto Trail Grappler 295/60-R20. $1,500 avg price.
Going to do a lot of price matching and try to buy everything from Summit Racing and Rock Auto. Summit has always been good with price matching. Saved me about $70 when I did my brakes in 2011. They are asking a lot of money for the Rancho equipment. I am also going to try to do as much of this in labor on my own as possible. I am a bit in-confident in pressing ball joints out of arms as I have never done such work before. I am going to try installing the Quiklifts on my own with a helping hand as its a simple coil spring replacement job, and basically the exact same procedure as installing a leveling spacer on OEM coils.
So far I have purchased and received the Moog UCAs. Scored them on the F150 forum from a member brand new for $135. Saved some good money! In the end I hope to have a nice adjustable smooth suspension that I can maintain on my own, and an attractive leveled stance on 34x12" Trail Grapplers.
