Sounds like you had the wrong size clamp if you could freely spin the muffler.

Did you by chance have any paint on the piece you had inserted into the flange? It could be possible that under heat it was acting as a lubricant. Just a thought.

And considering this what Corsa gives you to bolt together their $800 exhaust... they are a big plate of fail too. :)

Give 'em an earful. :fume:

I haven't experienced this, but I'll have to check sometime to see if anything is loose....

It's their clamp. It doesn't feel loose on there, that's the weird thing. Good thought on the paint, but I woudn't think flat paint would have anymore lubricity than polished S/S :dunno:

Corsa is NOT going to care. :D

In any event, I feel the new style clams I got will prevent this from ever happening again, if only for the fact they extend both ends of the tubing which alone would prevent them from coming fully apart.

The clamps that come in the kits are only ment to hold it together untill you get to the muffler shop to get it welded. :D2

that suck about the clamps, but I think the new clamp should do it fine, I would make it a point to crawl under there monthly or so to check it...

Why don't you use flanged joints instead of clamps. Better joint and still can be removed since you like to have that as an option. It might cost more but would last longer. Also coat the bolts with Milk of Magnesia, let it dry and then assemble. It is a great antiseize. We used it on the J79 jet engines that were in the F-4 Phantom.

Well that just sucks Umberto. I hear ya on wanting to be able to remove the pipes though.

My exhaust (custom) uses 3-bolt flanges. The entire system comes out in 6 pieces (3 sections). It was definitely worth the extra $$ for the flanges, but that also meant more money for labor and all the extra welding.

Maybe I should have my new exhaust on the S10 done this way too. I'd only need 2 flanges (one joint) done. Might be good for peace of mind too.

I might try that if these new clamps don't work, but I bet they will work great.
