I am finally ditching my point style distributor on my 72 318. While I am at it I want to install a GM HEI system as well. I know there are a lot of write ups on this subject matter. But I have also seen conflicting information. I just need some clarification on the exact parts I need. I will be getting these parts from a salvage yard. I know, I know, I should never run used electrical parts from a junk yard. Just trust me on this, for right now it is fine.
Distributor – need to know specifically what to look for in a salvage yard. I am pretty sure if it is stuck in a late 70s to late 80s 318 or 360 I am good. But, I just want to make sure. Also, what, if anything, should I grab with it?
HEI – I have seen different coils used in this conversion. What exactly should I look for in the salvage yard? I plan to grab more than one in case I get a bad one. What year vehicles should I look for and does the engine size matter? Also, is there anything else I should know considering I am getting used parts?
