They had an operating income of $150 billion with a net profit of $7.5 billion last year, I think they'll manage. Also with the ATS looking like it'll be at or near the top of its class the extra development money was worth it.
You should go work for the government with that mentality.
I just know how companies that produce things work. High production with a decent profit margin erases an obscene amount of questionable spending.

The ATS is going to be a successful car for Cadillac. I agree 100%. However, I do NOT think it will at the top or near the top its its class. They are going after the luxury German imports and that is going to be a tough sell. The numbers for the ATS look damn good but it will take more than that for MB, BMW, & AUDI buyers to make the move when it comes to writing out a check for $50-60K. That being said, they will probably grow the category by getting customers new to the segment in the ATS. Based on the numerous German boards I'm on, I don't see many people ready to jump ship.
I'm in that category. I may take one out for a test drive but I can't see myself ever seriously considering one. They have a ways to come yet IMO. Depreciation is another big hurdle they have yet to overcome.
I wasn't thinking top in sales, just in overall package. It'll take a few generations of exceptional cars to get people to think outside the German box.
