They had an operating income of $150 billion with a net profit of $7.5 billion last year, I think they'll manage. Also with the ATS looking like it'll be at or near the top of its class the extra development money was worth it.

You should go work for the government with that mentality.

I just know how companies that produce things work. High production with a decent profit margin erases an obscene amount of questionable spending.

The ATS is going to be a successful car for Cadillac. I agree 100%. However, I do NOT think it will at the top or near the top its its class. They are going after the luxury German imports and that is going to be a tough sell. The numbers for the ATS look damn good but it will take more than that for MB, BMW, & AUDI buyers to make the move when it comes to writing out a check for $50-60K. That being said, they will probably grow the category by getting customers new to the segment in the ATS. Based on the numerous German boards I'm on, I don't see many people ready to jump ship.

I'm in that category. I may take one out for a test drive but I can't see myself ever seriously considering one. They have a ways to come yet IMO. Depreciation is another big hurdle they have yet to overcome.

I wasn't thinking top in sales, just in overall package. It'll take a few generations of exceptional cars to get people to think outside the German box.

I haven't read that article yet. I'll check it out.

It was either Car & Driver or Motor Trend (can't remember which) tested the ATS and their initial review was very very favorable. It sounds like the ATS is on par with the 3 series based on the specs and their initial testing. I can't wait for the inevitable ATS vs 3 series test.

Even so, I can't see the German car crowd making the move to Cadillac. I'm not saying that's right or wrong, I just don't see it happening.

Not anytime soon.
NAH. The German car crowd would not know what to do with all of that extra time not spent on taking their car to the shop for "maintenance"

Seriously though... I also don't see it ever happening.

 There is some truth to that statement!

I've been lucky so far...I'm not sure how much longer before my luck runs out though.

Nothing feels like a German car. At least when it comes to BMW and Benz. They just do something no other car does... Lexus and Infiniti haven't found it... although they do make sweet cars.

There is just a difference.

Agree 99%. MB and BMW are in a different class as far as drivers cars. Lexus I feel has purposely gone a different route. They have gone more the couch with a steering wheel route. They are the new ride like a "Cadillac" Infiniti just hasn't totally figured it out. I love their interior, but I think Lexus, MB, and BMW are in a different class from Infiniti and Acura.

Lexus has started their F series in an attempt to take part of MB and BMW market, but I think caddy is doing a better job at that. Now whether the general public does, we'll see.

I like both BMW and Mercedes-Benz, but would consider a Cadillac instead.

That's the truth, even with the lower tier cars like Volkswagens. German cars have a solidness to them that I've yet to find in any other car.

That is a sexy ass Caddy. Damn good looking ride. :naughty: :flag:

Just curious as I've never driven or riden in a German vehicle but has anyone compared them to other vehicles running on MB or shared platforms? Like the old MB platform Chrysler 300,Magnum,Charger or the codeveloped Durango/Grand Cherokee/ML/GL platform. :dunno:
