On your 96, I don't think you have to worry about TM much.

As far as octane goes, you don't HAVE to run the octane it is rated for, but I would not recommend getting on it hard if you have say a 93 octane tune and try to run 87. The knock sensor will retard the timing some, but it will not take out all of the ping. I personally just run 93. If I fill my tank up completely it's only like $6 buck difference, not worth the potential damage.

Shift firmness is a personal preference. My Vmax will chirp the tires mid throttle from 1-2 shifts. That is something you will have to decide.

BUT, all of this being said. Tell Justin how you drive, if you tow, and what octane you want and sit back and enjoy the ride.

I know rich, but as much as I wanted to I couldn't justify the extra $50 for in person, and the fuel driving all the way out there. But I kinda wish I woulda just went.

I have computer controlled timing... Even with my distributor

 learn something new every day. Is there a computer controlled phaser on the distributor that retards or advances timing? I always just assumed to reduce likelihood of pinging it could cut fuel.

I'm not entirely sure the method it uses...

But it most likely has a much smaller range of adjustment...

That '96 should be vacuum adjusted timing... :dunno:

The 4.3 still has a distributor... Even in all the brand new stuff

The dropped the distributor for coil packs in 07 for the 900s.
