Very little reception is lost by shortening the FM antenna. The wire around it is not a ground and is there for aero purposes as daddy said.

It makes sense that the shorter the antenna the worse the reception is. Like they say, though, if you live in an area with good reception it wouldn't be a problem.

I think i might do that to mine looks pretty simple 
If you are going to do that, you'll want to order this part: 15287179
You can pick one up at the dealer for $10-$15.
It's the piece of the cowl from the Escalade. The Escalade does not have a mast antenna so this piece of cowl does not have the hole for one, completing the full antenna delete.

Just cut it, if you live in the city and reception has never been an issue than I doubt cutting 10 inches is going to be a problem.

Thats pretty much what I want to do. Maybe sometime i'll bite the bullet and do it.
Hell with that. Get one 10' longer mount on the rear bumper and tie it to the front bumper. Problem solved.

Why spend money to test in a junkyard one, when you could just go to a junkyard and buy a replacement (still at the appropriate length) if you screw that one up when you shorten it..??
