Do you think is JUST a rod?? JUST a rod??? Whats wrong with your ride dude??? ahh nothing, its JUST a rod !!!! Sorry for laughing, but thanks for the laugh. I needed it. A rod is pretty serious 66, its not JUST a rod. But anyway....

I would try to rule out the idea its a rod and go from there. I think 66 suggested a cam so we could here it, and that would be great. You know your cam turn 1 time to your cranks 2 times. So if you are decent at math, you can figure of if this is a valvetrain knock or a connecting rod knock. Keep in mind the valve will open and close one time to 2 crank revolutions, so a rod knock will be twice as fast as a valvetrain knock. Also using a stethescope, you can listen in the oil pan, and the valve cover. Either way, if you have elimated accesories as the noise, then its either valvetrain or cranktrain. You need to narrow it down. For the sake of being positive, I am going to suggest and hope its just valve train. And as I suggested, it could be recessed valves if the heads don't have hardened exhaust seats. Some people say that is bullshit and it doesn't happen. I got news, those people that say that are full of bullshit and I have a set of heads to prove it. Every exhaust valve is recessed 1/8 to a 1/4 inch. Had I kept driving the vehicle, it eventually would have gotton bad enough, it would have lost a valve keeper and sucked a valve. It DOES happen.
A rod is a big deal-i like to tinker but i havent gotten to play yet.The engine is a 75.-I don't know about the recessed valves/harden seat thing?i heard if it don't have harden seats you have to run higher octane and that's all is that right?---i will see what i can do about the video thing.

No necessarily higher octane, but leaded fuel. Which a lot of race fuels are and they happen to be higer octane.

Another question. Has the noise progressed at all?

No it's the same as far as i can tell-if i slightly rev it up it's more noticable and vibrants some then if i really rev it up say 3000 it kinda goes away

That's what it kinda sounds like but it's noticeable at idle and if you rev it up it kinda goes away-unless you rev it up just alittle then it's noticeable and vibrates

I would say most likley, if it goes away at 3000 rpm, its valvetrain parts, NOT a rod knock. A rod knock would keep knocking more and more the higher the rpm got I would think.

Well keep my in mind if you get fed up with it. Some guy is supposed to be coming over tommorow to buy my Monza. He'd have it already, but he is waiting for me to get the engine and trans out of it. I want the Buick 231 and BPO Turbo 350 out of it, then he is giving me $200 for the rest of it.

Lead works as a lubricant to valve seats. If you do not have the lead in the fuel and do NOT have hardened seats, the valves will beat the hell out of the seat, and the seats will slowly go away and recess the valves. Lead can add to octane level, but in this case the lead and octane are 2 differant things. Higher octane fuel is NOT a lead replacement.
