    Video of lil bro's truck.

He has a smart wife. Women who let their man play with their toys, keeps him from playing with other women !!! I have no doubt, he'll get to 9.5. I just wonder if it will happen with this motor. You only get so many sqeezes on a motor, and that usually depends on how hard you sqeeze it. I am...

    78 Chevy Monza

Does the rocker arm stud seem to be sticking up taller than the others? I wonder if you have a rocker arm stud trying to pull out. You know those are only pressed in. Unless you have had the heads worked on and had screw in studs put in, which for some high perf applications, you should do that...

Yo Ducky, Buddy??? Uhhh, So are you saying you did the rod bearings first? :dunno: And NOW going to do the Mains??? :uhoh: :nonod: You should do your mains first, and plasti guage all of them before you start connecting rods to the crank. I guess you could do it this way, BUT, I sure...

    Anyone here into Olds 442’s?

There is also another site, www.442.com that will tell just about anything you want to know about Olds. When Lou first got the 442 he had mentioned selling it and I was hoping I talked him into keeping it. But then when I had his wife on my side, and he said she tagged and insured it, I knew...

Lead works as a lubricant to valve seats. If you do not have the lead in the fuel and do NOT have hardened seats, the valves will beat the hell out of the seat, and the seats will slowly go away and recess the valves. Lead can add to octane level, but in this case the lead and octane are 2...

I would say most likley, if it goes away at 3000 rpm, its valvetrain parts, NOT a rod knock. A rod knock would keep knocking more and more the higher the rpm got I would think. Well keep my in mind if you get fed up with it. Some guy is supposed to be coming over tommorow to buy my Monza...

Fast knock would be con rod. Slower knock would be valvetrain. Nothing should knock 4 times a turn unless you have multiple valve issues or multiple con rod issues.

Do you think is JUST a rod?? JUST a rod??? Whats wrong with your ride dude??? ahh nothing, its JUST a rod !!!! Sorry for laughing, but thanks for the laugh. I needed it. A rod is pretty serious 66, its not JUST a rod. But anyway.... I would try to rule out the idea its a...

I am very doubtful that is a 12 to 1 motor. You'd have to have some healthy domes on those pistons to have 12 to 1. And no, if it were, the only way it would make that noise is if the pistons had such a dome and were not fly cut, they are coliding with a valve which would lead to catostrophic...

White smoke is usally some kind of water or antifreeze vapor burning. So is this alot of white smoke or just puffs of white smoke? Is it possbile to have some moisture in the mufflers? It may go away if its just condensation. Are you losing any antifreeze? Anyway to pressure test the cooling...

Solid lifter cams you use a feeler guage. You don't do the one full turn past the clatter going away. You can get by with that on hydraulic because hydraulic is foregiving and will compensate. Solid is not foregiving and must be done to spec and tolerance.

Books usually call for a full turn. I usually go a half on hydraulic lifters.

Use a stethoscope and listen to the valve cover in the exhuast port side of the head at each cylinder see if the noise gets any louder at any valve. Also put the stethescope on the oil pan. Try to find where the noise is most prominate.

His is a 3 speed manual. No luck there either. He says hes getting 180lb compression, but the white smoke concerns me. I am wondering if maybe he doesn' have a recessed valve seat from unleaded fuel causeing a valve to make a little racket. But if he has adjust the valves, you'd think he had...

What makes you think its a rod knocking??? A rod knocking does not sound anything at all like a water pump going out. With the motor cooled, and the battery charged up. Start the truck with all the belts off the front of the engine. That will help isolate if its driven accessory OR NOT. Normally...
