P0449-How To Replace Evap. Vent Solenoid

I think emissions are only covered for 5 years or 100k miles, your age of the vehicle is probably why they declined it. The location of the Tahoe-Yukon vents is slightly different from the trucks and nobody has posted any pics of it. So if you do tackle the job try to take some pics and post them here to help others. If you post them, I will host them from my Photobucket account if you're ok with it.

I purchased the solenoid but they did not provide a vent with it. It was just the EVAP unit. I gather i will have to purchase the vent separately? It does not appear to be a kit even with places like auto zone

A cousin of mine got a solenoid-vent assembly for his Tahoe, it had a long hard plastic tube with it. I think he said the vent was integral with the solenoid. Unfortunately I didn't study it too well. But it came in a long cardboard box where mine was a small square box?

I have 2008 silverado LT 52,000 miles and got the P0446 and P0449 codes. Mu truck already had the new vent solenoid with the filter attached to a hose going from the vent solenoid and located above the transmission. Anyway, i was pissed about the $152 price tag for replacement and read the section of this forum about getting the canister vent solenoid for a 2006 chevy suburban. I called several parts stores and they didnt have it in stock and listed avg price at $25. I called nearest dealer and they had it for $29. Rarely happens so bad ass. I got the solenoid, went to auto parts store and got 5/8 radiator hose with the bend in it i needed and two hose clamps. I put the $29 solenoid on and within 3 days the warning light went off itself. Awesome suggestion and great work around. Very cool. Thanks guys. Repair took me 30 minutes start to finish.

Damn this is a common topic, just replaced mine last weekend because of the P0455 code. I love TMC! Now I gotta figure out how to drop the transmission, I got a leak coming from the bell housing.

I have seen guys do it in the driveway using a few ratchet straps to help lower it to the ground once it's unbolted. Straps are clamped at the frame rails running under the transmission. Keeping tension on them then slacking them off to lower the trans down.

Looked like a pretty slick way of doing it in the driveway with no transmission jack.

I have a 2007 ( new body style ) silverado, and just recently got the P0449 message. I am having trouble locating the solenoid and was wondering if any one has replaced it on this body style.

Hey everybody - Been reading all the news on how to Clear that P0449 and have one Question:
Should the Code be thrown regarding Evap/Sol if I have an Exhaust Leak? (pretty major leak)
Reason I ask is: I just had my Muffler Replaced (really bad leak where Muffler meets Tail Pipe)...While driving back to work, the Check Engine Soon Light turned off!
That light has been on for well over a year now & I just kept checking it every couple weeks (to make sure no new codes are thrown).
Would changing my Muffler and eliminating that exhaust leak clear that P0449 code? Could it really have been that simple????
I should note: 2000 Silverado 4x4 5.3L 8Cyl with...ready? 389,000 miles (My ORIGINAL MILES!).....

Maybe the light burned out? I can't see the code having anything to do with the exhaust system. Quite a few miles on that puppy, congrats.

Not sure where the solenoid is on a new body style, I think that info might be buried back in the thread somewhere. From what I remember reading here and elsewhere, the solenoid is in different locations depending on cab style, year, etc.
