So you're saying you kept the insurance money, just had a buddy do the body work to repair it but you didn't get a new hood, so that damage is previous damage from the wreck? That's good then. Needed a hood anyway, so when you do tear it good, you've been paid for it already.
But honestly, before someone does get hurt, or you do tear up your truck or someone elses, you really need to get with one of your buddies that welds and either modify that rack to fit your truck properly or get another truck that fits the rack as it is. That's your 2 options.

Yes, I got another hood off that blue truck that bought for $500. I thought about making some supports for the legs in the back out of treated lumber and grade 8 bolts.

Dave, take it to a metal shop, give them $100 and have them relocate the posts for you to fit correctly in the stake holes. That, or go ahead and do it half-ass and put yourself at sever risk of liability when/if something damages someone's car or kills them.

Some of the shit you do is less than smart but in the long run, not all that dangerous. THIS IS DANGEROUS and you should be responsible enough to fix this the right way or take the damn thing off your truck and throw it in the ever-growing junk pile.

Seriously, stop being dense here and fix it the right way.

It really would take you 45 minutes to do yourself. I guess if you don't have a welder or know something with one it'd be hard. But this is almost the simplest fix a guy could ask for :dunno:

I'm just taking the idea from the clown to make some braces for back 2 legs. I'll post drawing of what I'm doing to it later.

Unless it's aluminum... I don't think a lawn mower powered welding rig could effectively weld that.

Before you make those braces, you ARE getting the rack cut so that it's the proper width, and the rear posts go in the proper place, aren't you?

How would you feel if the semi-truck with 80,000 lbs of pipe was beside you or in front of you with a slipshod setup like that? Especially when the pipe let go?

Things like this are NOT where you cheap out and use oddball ides just because you're too cheap or lazy to fix it properly.

No, I'm not getting it shortened.

I don't think I'd load it to anywhere near it's rated capacity if you're going to leave the main supports bent at an angle.

And get it narrowed, not shortened...

Unless you do some fWONked up thing to "support" the back end of it. Then you need to shorten it.

I'm glad I don't live close to where Dave's truck is gonna be running up and down the road...
