Problem with that is the reading you get can be vary erratic. Also from what I've read. It not necessarily the max temp but the time at max temp. Most people want and adverage of the temp so they go for the pan.

Also while we are on the subject. When Amsoil says 50k miles service on trans fluid is that just a drain and refill or change all of it?

It would be a complete fluid exchange. That way you are not mixing fresh with old fluid.

The pan temp would be a good point I guess. Even though the pressure temp shows erratic to me it would give a true temp of exactly how hot the converter is getting and you can respond accordingly.
