bought it used but never installed.
saved a few hundred bucks
also, after talking to many people and hearing other trucks that made the same sound, i am sure the dealer was completely wrong. the turbo bearing is not bad. the up-pipe flex coupling or even the pipe in general has a crack in it. when i turn the truck on and it is cold, the injectors are quite enough to let me hear a hiss from the pipe leaking.
also if i unplug the variable vane geometry solenoid, the sound goes away. the turbo bearing would not do that.. the boost is removed when i un-plug the connector as the vanes open all the way.
what does this mean?
it means i can take my time and order everything i want then go to the shop. i might even take everything to Nor-cal with me and let my favorite diesel shop do the work.. anyway, might get the turbo tomorrow. it is still an upgrade i want to do, just don't feel pressed to do it so soon.
Nice purchase Dave. I really want to get that setup also but it's on the waiting list.
I'd try new up pipe first and the if needed a new y pipe. Can't remember if you have an egr delete yet but if you want I have a spare up pipe I could send you if needed. It's supposed to be getting welded up now but the welder has been super busy and hasn't started yet
